Kingman County (standard abbreviation: KM) is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. Kingman County is included in the Wichita, KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. ==History== For millennia, the land now known as Kansas was inhabited by Native Americans. In 1803, most of modern Kansas was secured by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In 1854, the Kansas Territory was organized, then in 1861 Kansas became the 34th U.S. state. In 1872, Kingman County was founded. It was named for Samuel A. Kingman, chief justice of the supreme court. During the 1870s, Kingman County abounded with bison. The old-time cowboy author Frank H.
